Warranty & Service Policy
At Outboard Mart LLC, we stand behind the quality and performance of our products. Our warranty policy is designed to provide you with confidence and clarity, whether you purchase a brand-new engine or a pre-owned motor. Please read the following terms carefully.
1. New Outboard Motor Warranty
All brand-new Yamaha and Suzuki outboard motors purchased from Outboard Mart LLC come with the full manufacturer’s standard limited warranty.
Coverage: The warranty is provided directly by Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A. or Suzuki Motor USA, LLC. It covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and prescribed maintenance.
Term: The warranty period varies by manufacturer and model, typically ranging from 24 to 36 months for recreational use from the date of retail sale. Some Suzuki models offer an extended 3+2 year warranty promotion (3-year standard + 2-year extended upon product registration). Specific terms will be provided with your owner’s manual packet.
Registration: It is the customer’s responsibility to properly register the new outboard motor with the manufacturer to activate the warranty. Instructions and necessary forms are included with your shipment.
Service: Warranty service must be performed by an authorized dealer or service center for the respective brand. Outboard Mart LLC will provide assistance in locating an authorized service center near you.
2. Pre-Owned & Used Outboard Motor Limited Warranty
To ensure your peace of mind, our carefully inspected pre-owned inventory is covered as follows:
“Ready-for-Sea” Certification & 90-Day Limited Parts Warranty: Every pre-owned outboard motor that passes our rigorous multi-point inspection receives our “Ready-for-Sea” Certification. This certified motor includes a 90-day limited warranty on internal powerhead and gearcase components against catastrophic failure under normal use. This warranty covers major internal parts such as pistons, crankshafts, connecting rods, and gears.
Exclusions:Â This limited warranty does not cover:
Wear items (spark plugs, propellers, anodes, belts, filters).
External components (paint, decals, cowling, trim system, lower unit skeg).
Failures resulting from improper installation, accident, submersion, neglect, lack of maintenance, use of contaminated fuel, or operation outside the engine’s specified capacity.
Claim Process:Â In the unlikely event of a covered failure, contact us immediately. We may require an inspection by a certified marine technician of our choosing. Warranty remedies may include, at our discretion, the provision of replacement parts or a pro-rated repair credit.
3. “As-Is” Sales
Some used outboard motors, typically older models or those sold at a significant discount, are clearly marked and sold “AS-IS, WHERE-IS” with no warranty. These motors have been run-tested but are sold for their current condition. All sales for “AS-IS” products are final.
4. General Terms & Conditions for All Warranties
Effective Date: All warranty periods begin on the date of shipment from our facility.
Transferability: New manufacturer warranties are typically non-transferable. The Outboard Mart LLC 90-Day Limited Pre-Owned Warranty is non-transferable to subsequent owners.
Installation Requirement: For any warranty to remain valid, the outboard motor must be installed by a qualified marine technician. Proof of professional installation may be required for a warranty claim. Self-installation voids all warranties.
Proper Use & Maintenance: The owner must perform all prescribed break-in procedures and routine maintenance as outlined in the official factory service manual. Failure to maintain the engine with recommended service intervals and using OEM-specified fluids and parts can void warranty coverage.
Geographic Limitation: These warranties are valid for products shipped and operated within the United States and Canada. For international customers, warranty service may be limited or unavailable; please inquire before purchase.
5. How to Make a Warranty Claim
Contact Us First: Immediately notify our customer service team at [email protected] with your order number and a detailed description of the issue.
Do Not Repair:Â Do not disassemble the engine or authorize repairs before receiving written authorization from our warranty department, as this may void coverage.
Assessment:Â We will guide you through the next steps, which may involve diagnostic tests by a local authorized service center.
Resolution:Â For new motors, the manufacturer’s authorized dealer will handle the claim directly under their policy. For our pre-owned warranty, we will work with you and the technician to determine the most efficient remedy.
6. Disclaimer & Limitation of Liability
THIS WARRANTY IS EXPRESSLY IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. Outboard Mart LLC’s maximum liability under this policy shall not exceed the original purchase price of the outboard motor.
This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.
